About Course

Hip, Knee, and ankle joints are the weight bearing joints of the body. Out of these three, knee joints are the commonest joints that are susceptible to pain and arthritis. That’s why, a physiotherapist’s OPD majorly has a lot of clients having knee pain. Not everyone wants or can afford to go for Total Knee replacement. And even if they go, for TKR, not everyone gets the desired results. Therefore, knowing how to treat knee joint appropriately is vital being a physical therapist.

Shoulder joint is one of the most mobile joints of the body. However, this amount of mobility comes at the cost of stability. Less stability makes it a target of various musculoskeletal conditions like instability, dislocation/ subluxation, tendinitis, impingement, arthritis, adhesive capsulitis, strain, AC joint sprain, weakness of rotator cuff muscles etc. Also, it’s a very large joint and falling on an outstretched hand pertains it to sustain major injuries and fractures instantly. Even amongst the sports people, shoulder injuries are common due to overuse, wrong technique of hand maneuvers or due to on-field injuries. Not only amongst sports players, but musculoskeletal conditions like frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injuries/ weakness make it difficult to perform the activities of daily living like dressing up, pulling/pushing a door, sleeping on the affected shoulder, overhead motions; ultimately disturbing the normal routines of sedentary people. Therefore, role of a physiotherapist essentially comes into play in treating this highly mobile joint.

This chapter on Manual Therapy: Knee and Shoulder explains and demonstrates the mobilisation techniques of knee and shoulder joint that help to relieve pain, decrease stiffness, improve the activities of daily living, and improve the quality of life of people suffering from knee and shoulder problems. Course on Manual Therapy: Knee and Shoulder consists of all the techniques to treat knee and shoulder joints in weight bearing, partial weight bearing as well as non-weight bearing positions. All the techniques demonstrated are the best of manual therapy techniques which have been chosen and picked by Capri over the last 28 years by treating almost a lakh of patients and training about 13000 physiotherapists worldwide.
